Printmaking is a process-based medium that typically revolves around the printing press, a piece of heavy machinery usually with limited access. Because of this challenge, printmakers discover their community at a university or college, a public arts center or a garage, eagerly sharing information and resources. Uncommon Collective refers to the printmakers in this show who are spread throughout the state, yet are all part of the same family. The content that drives each artist’s work is unique, and the need for comradery within the medium is present for all.
This exhibition is in conjunction with the 2024 Month of Printmaking (Mo’Print), a biennial celebration of printmaking meant to educate and inspire, showcasing contemporary and traditional printmaking. Over the years the event has expanded to communities beyond the Denver area, including a broad range of artists. During Mo’Print, printmaking takes center stage at art galleries, art centers, and other venues across Colorado. Kuehl Fine Art & The A.R. Mitchell Museum are an integral part of bringing the celebration of printmaking to Southern Colorado.
