From tots to teens to everyone in between, Trinidad offers an array of activities for families.
Gems for Every Kid
Every kiddo has their own interests. The great thing about Trinidad is that it’s brimming with options, no matter what they’re into.
For the budding artist
Get inspired and meet local artists at Space to Create. Play “I Spy” at the Mt. San Rafael Hospital Mural or along the Public Art Tour. Or, bring a sketchpad to capture your favorite architectural elements along the Audio Tour.
For the kid who knows the name of every dinosaur, ever
Hop on the Trinidad Trolley or take a short drive to the Louden-Henritze Archeology Museum to get an up-close look at local artifacts. Then, walk alongside the 150-million-year-old brontosaurus and allosaurus footprints and see rock art at Comanche National Grassland.
For the youngster with a competitive streak
Find challenges on mountain biking trails or with a round of disc golf. Then head back to downtown Trinidad to watch the city’s professional baseball team, the Trinidad Triggers.
For your bucking bronco who insists on wearing their boots
Giddy-up to the A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art. Then, burn off energy at play spaces in Central Park or Jay Cimino Downtown Park. Make plenty of stops along the Santa Fe Trail National Scenic Byway or the Highway of Legends – where real cowboys once roamed.
For the teen scouring for social media-worthy content
While most of Trinidad and southeastern Colorado doesn’t need photo editing, Simpson’s Rest and the Trinidad Sign offer some of the best vistas around. Capture Victorian aesthetics at Bloom House Mansion, or explore the Purgatoire Riverwalk or Sister Blandina Wellness Garden.
For the family who wants to unplug
Retreat to Monument Lake Resort or Middle Fork Resort for an outdoor escape. Camp in the Spanish Peaks or in the southern foothills of the Rockies. Or gaze up at some of the area’s darkest skies at Capulin Volcano National Monument.
For your child who’s the first to try something new
Discover children’s programming at Southern Colorado Coal Miners Museum & Memorial. Try geocaching at Trinidad Lake State Park. Or take a tai chi or cooking class at Mt. Carmel Wellness and Community Center.
