Put your boots on the ground of Colorado’s newest – and 2nd largest – state park that spans 19,200 acres!
The park’s namesake, Fishers Peak, looms at 9,633 feet and is a spur of the Ratón Mesa.
Fishers Peak State Park connects grasslands to the east with hills and mountains to the west, making it an important corridor for wildlife movement. A diverse community calls it home, including elk, bears, white-tailed deer, the endangered New Mexico meadow jumping mouse, and over 170 species of birds. The peak is a nesting habitat for peregrine falcons and is closed seasonally each spring to protect the birds.
Currently, a portion is open to the public via Fishers Peak Trailhead with 16 miles of open trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
Please note that dogs are not permitted during the park’s initial phase. Hunting is only allowed with a special permit.
