North Lake State Wildlife Area is also known as Monument Lake. Here, you’ll find hunting opportunities for small and big game, including bear, deer, elk, and turkey.
Fishing is plentiful here, making it a haven for coldwater lake and coldwater stream enthusiasts. A boat ramp is on-site on the north shore. Floats, kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards are also welcome. While camping is prohibited in the North Lake SWA, the Purtgatoire Campground is nearby.
The SWA wilderness also offers access to high-elevation habitats, where you might spot dippers, owls, porcupines, and black bears in the dense thicket.
The Highway of Legends National Scenic Byway runs through part of North Lake SWA.
