Trinidad’s remarkable architecture serves as a portal to southern Colorado in the 1800s. The detail in our historic downtown is unlike any other in the state. It’s no wonder such an inspiring setting is home to a thriving art scene, where creativity is found not only in museums and studios but seemingly around every corner.
Trinidad Creative District
Founded in 1862, Trinidad is a paradise for architecture buffs and art lovers. Spend the morning strolling through our Creative District—CREATE Trinidad. Feel like a time traveler as you marvel through blocks of historic adobe and brick buildings. Buildings of note to scope: Trinidad’s City Hall, the Bloom House Mansion (take a pit stop here to check out the mansion and other offerings at the Trinidad History Museum), the Fox West Theatre, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and the First National Bank.

A.R. Mitchell Museum Of Western Art & Space To Create
Keep the art walk going by popping into the A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art. Housed in the 1096-built historic Jamieson’s Department Store, note the horseshoe-shaped mezzanine and pressed tin ceilings before viewing the iconic work of the King of Western Pulp Illustrations, Arthur Roy Mitchell, as well as other artists.
Continue soaking up the creative Trinidad vibes with a visit to Space to Create. Through this state-sponsored initiative, creatives in rural Colorado gain access to affordable housing. Head inside to unwind in the seating area and enjoy the artwork on display.
